In this episode, I’m talking about a feeling many of us face: the pressure to finish every course or program we’ve signed up for. I was sorting through my own list of courses and realized it’s totally okay to get what you need from part of a program and then move on. You don’t have to complete everything just because you once signed up.
If you’re like me and sometimes feel overwhelmed by your “to-learn” list, this episode is for you. We chat about how professional learning can be more like a buffet: pick what serves you right now and save the rest for later.
Here's to taking what works into 2026 and leaving the rest behind 🎉

Camille's Helpful Links for Practitioners
00:00:00.017 --> 00:00:03.997
Hi there. Welcome to In the Clinic with Camille. My name is Camille Freeman.
00:00:04.197 --> 00:00:07.757
I'm an herbalist and nutritionist, and in this podcast, I share little tips
00:00:07.757 --> 00:00:09.717
and tidbits that might be helpful for other practitioners.
00:00:10.437 --> 00:00:13.777
Today, I want to talk to you about something that came up while I was writing
00:00:13.777 --> 00:00:18.417
an email to people who were on the wait list for my 2026 supplement deep dive.
00:00:18.957 --> 00:00:22.077
Small side note, if you are interested in supplements, if your clients are taking
00:00:22.077 --> 00:00:26.057
supplements and it feels overwhelming, or you're not sure what is the latest
00:00:26.057 --> 00:00:28.217
on some of these popular supplements people are taking.
00:00:28.717 --> 00:00:32.637
Love to have you join us in the Supplement Deep Dive. You can check it out on
00:00:32.637 --> 00:00:34.877
my website. I will put a link in the show notes as well.
00:00:35.317 --> 00:00:38.497
But we're going to be taking a critical look at supplements to try to figure
00:00:38.497 --> 00:00:42.557
out which ones make sense, which ones are useful, which ones don't make sense,
00:00:42.637 --> 00:00:44.377
how to help clients streamline, all that kind of stuff.
00:00:44.737 --> 00:00:48.977
Anyway, I was writing an email to people on the waitlist, and I found over the
00:00:48.977 --> 00:00:55.057
years that sometimes just writing an email or writing a piece for public consumption
00:00:55.057 --> 00:00:57.217
helps me to clarify my thinking.
00:00:57.897 --> 00:01:02.477
And I was writing an email about the idea that, oh, if you've bought a bunch
00:01:02.477 --> 00:01:07.357
of courses in the past and you haven't finished them, how would you justify
00:01:07.357 --> 00:01:09.497
signing up for something like this supplement deep dive?
00:01:10.277 --> 00:01:14.817
And this ties into one of my business care tasks from earlier this month.
00:01:14.957 --> 00:01:18.597
I have a sub stack where I send out a weekly business care task.
00:01:19.257 --> 00:01:23.757
And a few weeks ago, the business care task was to make a list of all the courses
00:01:23.757 --> 00:01:26.357
and programs that you've purchased and kind of get them all together,
00:01:26.597 --> 00:01:28.777
figure out which ones you've taken, which ones you haven't taken,
00:01:28.917 --> 00:01:33.157
which ones you still want to take, how to access them, when they expire, all that kind of stuff,
00:01:33.437 --> 00:01:36.117
just to get it together so you can see what you already have access to.
00:01:36.777 --> 00:01:39.437
And as I was doing that for myself, I was like, oh, you know,
00:01:39.557 --> 00:01:42.617
I bought all these different things that I haven't finished.
00:01:43.137 --> 00:01:47.897
So why would I buy more things? And then I realized, oh, part of this has to
00:01:47.897 --> 00:01:51.057
do with the idea that just because you purchased something or signed up for
00:01:51.057 --> 00:01:54.917
it or whatever, that you are then obligated to finish the whole thing.
00:01:55.520 --> 00:02:00.960
And certainly if you are in a degree program or, you know, some kind of longer
00:02:00.960 --> 00:02:04.240
program where you, you know, that you only have access to it for a limited time
00:02:04.240 --> 00:02:09.940
and you need some nudges to finish, great if you need the CEU hours, amazing.
00:02:10.340 --> 00:02:15.720
But once you're out in business, I think it's also completely justifiable to
00:02:15.720 --> 00:02:19.740
sign up for a program to get what you need to get from it and then to let it go.
00:02:19.880 --> 00:02:23.280
Like you don't have to complete everything just because, just because you signed
00:02:23.280 --> 00:02:26.740
up for it. And I realized as I was looking over my list that there are programs
00:02:26.740 --> 00:02:31.640
that I've purchased and signed up for, and I got what I needed from doing 20%
00:02:31.640 --> 00:02:33.440
of it. It changed something big for me.
00:02:34.100 --> 00:02:37.760
And I was able to be like, great, I think the rest of it is not really what
00:02:37.760 --> 00:02:39.840
I need or want right now. So I'm just gonna let it go.
00:02:40.800 --> 00:02:46.660
And to me it pulled up something about this need this kind of perfectionistic
00:02:46.660 --> 00:02:51.240
need to complete it to check it off the list as done as opposed to just saying
00:02:51.240 --> 00:02:53.040
hey it's kind of like a buffet,
00:02:53.620 --> 00:02:57.520
you can sign up for things get what you need from the parts of it that are helpful
00:02:57.520 --> 00:03:01.840
to you and then you're not obligated to do every single thing just because you
00:03:01.840 --> 00:03:05.760
one time gave somebody your email address to sign up for a free class or whatever it is.
00:03:06.120 --> 00:03:12.140
So my point here is, A, if you have that same feeling where you've looked at
00:03:12.140 --> 00:03:14.400
all the different things and you're like, oh my gosh, I have to complete all
00:03:14.400 --> 00:03:15.600
these before I start a new one.
00:03:15.920 --> 00:03:21.140
No, when you are in business, what you need to do is the trainings that you need right now.
00:03:21.660 --> 00:03:26.200
If you signed up for 15 things that are sort of nice to have in the past that
00:03:26.200 --> 00:03:30.020
you might eventually need or want, they can be like a library.
00:03:30.240 --> 00:03:32.920
You can come to them when you need them, you don't have to do them right now
00:03:32.920 --> 00:03:35.200
just because you purchased them. I mean, if there's a deadline,
00:03:35.400 --> 00:03:37.780
great, do them, whatever. But what I'm saying is.
00:03:39.181 --> 00:03:43.241
Once you are in practice and you're doing things, you're going to be going along
00:03:43.241 --> 00:03:48.161
and be like, oh my gosh, I need to XYZ, update my website.
00:03:48.781 --> 00:03:51.821
Look and see if you have purchased something about updating your website because
00:03:51.821 --> 00:03:53.061
you need that one right now.
00:03:53.221 --> 00:03:58.381
Let's start there and do the ones that are actively important to where you are
00:03:58.381 --> 00:04:00.141
in your business at this moment.
00:04:00.761 --> 00:04:05.221
And don't feel obliged to finish. Do them until you get what you need from it
00:04:05.221 --> 00:04:07.901
and then figure out what do you need next.
00:04:08.421 --> 00:04:12.241
Okay, I hope that is making sense. Just wanted to share that at the end of the
00:04:12.241 --> 00:04:14.401
year, I think some of us are looking back over what happened.
00:04:14.681 --> 00:04:19.401
And maybe, like me, initially feeling a little bit of guilt about signing up
00:04:19.401 --> 00:04:20.521
for things and not doing them.
00:04:21.761 --> 00:04:24.761
And certainly there's things to unpack. Like, okay, you know,
00:04:24.801 --> 00:04:31.021
if your eyes are bigger than your stomach in some ways, that is a thing to think about.
00:04:31.021 --> 00:04:35.101
But it's also possible that you sign up for things, got what you need,
00:04:35.261 --> 00:04:38.101
or you scroll them away for later when you do need them.
00:04:38.281 --> 00:04:40.681
And that's okay. You don't have to feel badly about that.
00:04:41.251 --> 00:04:44.331
Now you have access to the things that you may need, but you don't have to do
00:04:44.331 --> 00:04:46.271
them all right now, just because.
00:04:46.911 --> 00:04:50.691
Okay, I hope that's helpful. If you are also trying to just get your head around
00:04:50.691 --> 00:04:53.991
all of this, I am doing a workshop in January.
00:04:54.071 --> 00:04:57.451
I'm forgetting the exact date right now, but I think it's the 7th.
00:04:57.911 --> 00:05:02.071
Anyway, I'm doing a workshop in January. It's free if you share it with somebody or $25 otherwise.
00:05:02.311 --> 00:05:06.151
And we are going to just talk about how do you prioritize professional development?
00:05:06.151 --> 00:05:07.411
How do you keep track of it?
00:05:07.611 --> 00:05:10.451
How do you make sure you're not spending too much time on it?
00:05:10.451 --> 00:05:13.271
But also not totally ignoring it and all that kind of thing.
00:05:13.411 --> 00:05:16.271
So if you'd like to come to that, amazing. I'll put the link in the show notes.
00:05:16.931 --> 00:05:18.431
And similarly, if you want to
00:05:18.431 --> 00:05:21.711
come learn about supplements with us next year, I would love to have you.
00:05:21.951 --> 00:05:27.671
You can go to my website, camillefreeman.com slash supplements soon or just poke around.
00:05:27.811 --> 00:05:30.951
You'll find the supplement deep dive on there and hopefully we'll see you there.
00:05:31.231 --> 00:05:35.571
All right, have a wonderful end of your year. I think this is our last podcast episode of the year.
00:05:35.671 --> 00:05:39.831
So I hope your 2025 is wrapping up smoothly if you're listening to this in real time.
00:05:40.451 --> 00:05:44.151
Looking forward to what 2026 will bring, and I hope you're going to get some
00:05:44.151 --> 00:05:45.851
rest over these next few weeks.
